Student Pages - Acrylics
I teach many variations of acrylic classes and workshops at intervals throughout the year, but the general description for my weekly 3 hour acrylic class (see Classes/Workshops for dates and times) is as follows:
Overcome your fear of the blank page as you learn to create colorful underpaintings and develop subject matter in an intuitive, free-form manner. In a series of hand-on exercises, you will learn how to monotype using fluid acrylics on paper, develop interesting shapes, and add light and dark values to your paintings while uniquely expressing the “you” in your work. This workshop is ideal for artists who currently work in acrylics, but is also well-suited to the experienced watercolor artist who wants to make the leap into painting with fluid acrylics. We’ll even learn how to salvage old watercolor paintings and bring them back to life with acrylics. Topics include: Creating fresh “starts”, or building colors/textures on existing background (using monoprinting); developing a design plan that works; how to select subject matter that you can develop further; and tips for developing and working towards a painting series.

Just a few of the many paintings my students have produced in my classes and workshops. These four paintings are by Sandy Reeves--a very talented emerging acrylic artist here in Portland. Most are acrylics on paper, except for the square painting which is on canvas.
