If you hear a voice within you say "you cannot paint," then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced. (Vincent Van Gogh)
Art is not about thinking something up. It is the opposite: getting something down. (Julia Cameron in "The Artist's Way")
I am an acrylic marbling painter/instructor in Portland, Oregon, where I teach classes and workshops, participate in local and regional art groups, and spend many hours painting in my home studio. I only wish there were enough hours in the day (or in a lifetime) to commit ALL of my ideas to paper. All I can do is keep painting and make the most of the time I DO have.
I've discovered that there are two types of painters--those who start out with a specific idea in their head, and those who simply paint and respond to what develops. For me, the latter approach has produced some of my most exciting paintings.
"The most important tool the artist fashions through constant practice is his ability to produce miracles when they are needed." -- Mark Rothko
